About The Course
Science for Non-Scientists is a newly created class offered at the Colorado Free University (CFU). With teacher Anne Andrew you can explore some Fascinating Facts of Nature and leave the math behind. Sure math is the alphabet of the sciences but you don't have to know the English alphabet to speak English, do you? Everyone is welcome to participate in Annii's class but please be sure to register through the Colorado Free University.
Description as posted in CFU's course catalogue:
Have you ever wondered what a black hole really is or why people get depressed? Would it be neat to know how diamonds are made or what causes volcanoes and earthquakes? Anne Andrew answers these questions and many more in this introductory science class. A senior physics major at the University of Colorado Denver, Anne has also completed her mathematics and astrophysics minors and is president of the Space Society of Auraria. Passionate about science, Anne has a knack for explaining scientific concepts to non-scientists and for taking the intimidation out of science. The first session explores Astronomy and Cosmology - Our Solar System and Beyond. In session two, learn about Geology and Paleontology (dinosaurs). Session three reveals how Evolution and Psychology intersect. Bring your notebook, a folder for handouts, your curiosity, and be ready to learn how things work.

Course Materials
The course includes three meetings in CFU's classrooms, each an hour and a half long. There will be an hour long lecture (Power Point presentation) leaving time for a half-an-hour-long discussion each meeting. The presentations will be accompanied by a handout including word definitions, concept definitions, suggested reading and viewing, and suggested scientific day-trip and vacation outings.
