| Article I: Name of Organization |

Section 1: |

|
The name of this organization shall be the Space Society of Auraria (SSA). |
| |
|
|
| Article II: Purpose of Organization |
| |
Section 1: |
| |
The general purpose of SSA will be to create a community of interested students of science. |
| |
|
- To serve as a forum for the development of students’ knowledge and interest in astronomy and physics as well as other related sciences.
- To promote the growth of interest in astronomical events, astrophysics, general physical concepts, as well as telescopes and stargazing and science in general.
- To serve the college by organizing events on and off campus in which students can participate and learn about astronomy and related sciences.
- To foster the continued interest in astronomy, physics, and astronomical events.
- To create a community joining the different colleges of Auraria Campus.

| Article III: Qualifications for Membership |

Section 1: |
| |
To be a member of SSA one must be interested in astronomical and/or physical sciences. |
| |
|
- If attending a college, students must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Members must have the intention of attending at least one meeting or event per semester.
- No fees are required but donations are welcome and encouraged.

| Article IV: Administrative Structure of Organization |

Officer Qualifications: |
| |

- Non Discrimination Clause “Discrimination on the basis of race, gender, creed, color, national origin, age, disability, or sexual orientation, by any individual or unit of this organization is prohibited. A cause of action is created under this article for any individual who feels that he/she has been discriminated against in violation of this section”.
- At least two officers must be students of UCD with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Must be in good standing with the students college.
- Must have been an active member of the organization for at least one semester.

- President
|

|

- Update and maintain current and accurate information to the ASCUD Student Government.
- Preside over all meetings.
- Appoint committees.

- Approve any and all organized events.
- Be awesome!

2. Treasurer |

|
|
|
- Update and maintain current and accurate account information with the ASCUD Student Government Office.
- Work in conjunction with the ASCUD Finance Board in all financial matters concerning the organization.
- Keep track of all the finances and expenses of SSA.

3. Vice President |
| |
|
|
|
- Fill in when the President is unable to attend a meeting.
- Take minutes when the Secretary is unable to attend a meeting.
|

|
|
4. Secretary |
| |
|
|
|
- Take minutes of all meetings.
- Email minutes to president to be posted on the website.
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
|
| Article V: Faculty Advisor |
| |

Role of the Advisor |
| |
|
- The advisor will be knowledgeable about astronomy and upcoming astronomical events and will support the club with this knowledge and the wisdom of his/her position.
|

|
|
| |
Section 2: |
| |
|
Qualifications of the Advisor |
| |
|
- A minimum of one advisor must be a teacher of physics and/or astronomy at UCD.
- All other advisors must be teachers of physics and/or astronomy.
|

|
|
| |
Section 3: |
| |
|
General Duties |
| |
|
- Attend at least one club meeting or event per year.
- Assist and advise club officers in the organization of events.
- Continue advisorship for a minimum of one officer term.

|
|
| |
|
|
| Article VI: Officer Appointments |
| |

| |
|
Candidates |
| |
|
- Candidates will be nominated by a member or by volunteering for a position.
- Posting of new candidates will be in May of the current term.
|

|
|
| |
Section 2: |

|
Voting |
| |
|
- Voting will be held through anonymous paper ballets available by email or download off of SSA’s website.
- Ballets will be received through mail or drop-off to the SSA campus box.
- Voting period from the first week of May to the last week of July.
- Results will be posted in the first week of August.
- Officers will be appointed by the majority vote.
- New terms begin the first day of spring semester.

Section 3: |

Removal of an Officer |
| |
|
- A petition of at least 51% of the society members must be presented to start the removal process.
- The remaining officers will organize a meeting to vote the officer out by a majority vote; a replacement must be nominated by the end of this meeting.
- Voluntary removal of an officer may occur due to graduation or transfer.
- A voluntarily removed officer may nominate a replacement for the remainder of their term.
- Ultimately a replacement officer will be decided by a majority vote by the remaining officers.

| Article VII: Meetings |
| |

Weekly Meetings |
| |
|
- Weekly meetings will be held once per week by at least two officers, or one officer and the faculty advisor.
- Weekly meetings will be held to keep up to date on astronomical events and the situation of the SSA.
- Weekly meetings may be held through email or in NC 3610.
- Weekly meeting minutes will be emailed to all officers and faculty advisors.

Special Meetings |
| |
|
- The president, treasurer and faculty advisor each have authority to call special meetings where all officers are requested to attend.

Quorum |

- Two officers or one officer and the faculty advisor, as well as 10% of the society’s members.
|
| |
|
|

Member Meetings and Events |
| |
|
- A minimum of one astronomical viewing event each spring and fall semester.
- A minimum of one meet and greet event each spring semester.
- A minimum of one educational gathering event per semester.

| Article VIII: Finances |

- Bake sale with pastries shaped like astronomical objects and rocket ships.

| Article IX: Amendments |

Procedure for Amending the Constitution |
| |
|
- Amendments can be presented by any member of the society.
- Amendments will be presented during full member meetings and voting will follow (majority rules).
