Total Lunar Eclipse -- February 20, 2008
This was the first official event of the Space Society of Auraria (at the time we were calling it the Auraria Space Society but the Office of Student Life wouldn't let us get away with that acronym). It turned out to be total overcast that night, which was a shame because we had an amazing turnout. We ended up having around 75 guests that toughed it out with us as we tried to wish the clouds away. To compensate we were prepared with a live, satellite linked, laptop showing video of the lunar eclipse from a location that was clear enough to see the spectacle. We had plenty of telescopes out (many were graciously provided by the Denver Astronomical Society) and gave demonstrations for curious visitors.
Our event made it into the Metropolitan Student Newspaper, twice. Unfortunately the notice of the viewing event didn't actually make it into the paper until the day after it actually took place. But there was a nice review written the following week. Below you may view both of the articles that made it into the Metro Student Newspaper.
